Review as Visitor

User story

As a visitor, I want to choose a fictional account without knowing its password so I can review the different experiences.

Draft requirements for review · Updated 2026-10-19

What the app should do

  • Provide plain-language named persona entries with explicit free/paid Member, Creator, Guide, Athlete, organization owner/manager and staff scenarios, plus Explore as a Visitor for new-member review. Reuse Maya/Liam organization assignments; do not create duplicate organization logins. Use Casey Bennett for the existing paid member fixture and role-appropriate descriptions.
  • Offer a clearly labeled Try a demo account choice on the shared sign-in screen, alongside ordinary email/password sign-in and Create account.
  • Use a compact seeded account set for free Member, paid Member, overlapping professionals, organization owner/manager and existing internal roles; include multi-role ownership examples.
  • Use clearly identified synthetic local accounts and genuine provider sessions; choose only allowlisted seeded identities through the local server boundary. Dummy Home entry needs no password or MFA setup; regular registration, staff provisioning and protected-operation session/MFA checks remain real and separate.
  • Enter the chosen fixture at its permitted starting Home/workspace, support sign-out to Visitor and keep seed data changes isolated.
  • Open every allowlisted dummy Home, including assigned staff Homes, without a password or authenticator prompt. This dev Home-entry convenience must not impersonate real MFA success, grant unassigned roles or weaken normal tester/staff authorization.
  • Preserve the paid-member Home experience using the trusted local paid test entitlement; provide genuine seeded account sessions for professional and organization scenarios.

Try the demo without creating an account

All twelve review scenarios passed genuine staging entry, Home, refresh and sign-out: Visitor, nine named accounts and the two existing organization contexts. Fixed staff accounts can preview their Homes but have no real staff assignments or operating authority. The exact no-preference Professional browser case remains separately unverified; focused routing tests cover the fallback. Full story stays In progress.

  1. 03In Step into Backcountry choose Explore as a Visitor under Start at the magazine. Confirm signed-out magazine Visitor Home, then open public plans to begin a new-member journey. Existing account cards separately choose their permitted Homes; protected staff actions retain real checks.
  2. 04From Visitor Home use account/workspace menu → Sign in → Try a demo account. Review the seeded free Member, paid Member, Creator, Guide, Athlete and four HOL staff identities with Open account; each must establish its own genuine local session.
  3. 05Choose the card labeled Free Member for Alex → Your next chapter; Paid Member for Casey Bennett → Go Deeper; Creator/Guide/Athlete for Liam/Maya/Jordan → the named Professional Home. On the same chooser use Organization owner/Organization manager for Maya/Liam → Teton Meadow Guides with the correct owner/manager label. Each card is an explicit destination choice.
  4. 06Open each of the four staff dummy accounts and verify its assigned Home without a password or authenticator prompt. Use the account menu to return to Member Home; an old membership checkout must not intercept either destination. This checks Home arrival only; protected staff operations still require normal authorization and MFA.
  5. 07Use Home, reload, then switch only between workspaces assigned to that same account. Confirm that a remembered context or old signup/upgrade return cannot send a different dummy account to the wrong destination.
  6. 08Prepared-account check: ordinary sign-in with no actual selected Home must show magazine Visitor Home while keeping the authenticated identity. All current named fixtures already have a selected preference; do not clear it for review. This exact professional case has routing-test coverage and awaits a suitable browser fixture.
  7. 09Use account/workspace menu → Sign out and verify Visitor Home. Ordinary email/password sign-in and free account creation remain available. This check ends at the correct Home; its feature tools/content are reviewed later.

Backend work for this feature

Backend development authorized · Dev only

What needs to be supported

  • Provide plain-language named persona entries with explicit free/paid Member, Creator, Guide, Athlete, organization owner/manager and staff scenarios, plus Explore as a Visitor for new-member review. Reuse Maya/Liam organization assignments; do not create duplicate organization logins. Use Casey Bennett for the existing paid member fixture and role-appropriate descriptions.
  • Local-only seeded convenience must establish a genuine managed-provider session for an allowlisted synthetic identity, keep credentials/service secrets server-only, and enforce current authority/MFA. It cannot grant staff or paid scope from the client choice.
  • Keep ordinary email/password registration/sign-in separate. Permit password-free fixed synthetic entry only in isolated dev or the exact approved staging provider/origin; deny arbitrary identities, other origins and production. Staging staff shortcuts grant Home preview only, with no real assignment or operating scope.

How to verify in dev

  1. In Step into Backcountry choose Explore as a Visitor under Start at the magazine. Confirm signed-out magazine Visitor Home, then open public plans to begin a new-member journey. Existing account cards separately choose their permitted Homes; protected staff actions retain real checks.
  2. Choose each fictional fixture, reset and return to real sign-in; prove a genuine local session is established only for the allowlisted seed account, with no client-issued entitlement/staff grant or fabricated MFA assurance. Verify that dummy Home review cannot unlock protected staff operations and ordinary accounts cannot use the dummy exception.

Before this can work

  • Begin on Visitor Home while signed out. If an account is active, use the account/workspace menu → Sign out. Public browsing does not require an account.
  • Use a fictional visitor account and begin at its Home with its actual permitted context.
  • Use actual local provider sessions and persisted state; record connected UI and direct permission checks separately.
