Document Backcountry’s design direction

October 4–7, 2026

Demo improvement · Across launch phases · Completed work and checks

Historical work completed by 2026-10-07; recorded retrospectively on October 15, 2026. This record does not represent newly completed work in the current week or stakeholder approval.

The working design reference is complete for this historical demo scope. Fifty-eight documented candidates are not fifty-eight production-ready components; cross-title brand approval, complete APIs and accessibility certification remain open.

Implementation status is separate from stakeholder approval and publication.

Goal

As a person reviewing the Backcountry concept, I want clear design principles and a visual/component reference so I can discuss the experience using a shared language.

How to check

  1. Read the dated reference deliverables below.
  2. Open the current Design system reference and review Principles, a Foundation topic and a Component page.
  3. Use the historical dates to distinguish that first reference from subsequent refinements; candidate documentation is not production approval.

Historical completion criteria

  • Publish five design-reference sections covering Principles, Foundations, Components, Patterns and Next decisions.
  • Provide concrete examples and review questions for the experience and visual principles.
  • Document seven foundation topics and fifty-eight component candidates with specimens, usage guidance and implementation boundaries.
  • Verify direct navigation, reference examples and desktop/phone layouts.

Historical changes and the verification recorded at the time. Links to current references may include later revisions.

  1. Completed:

    Create the working design reference

    documentation review
    Where:
    Brief → Design system
    What changed:
Documented experience principles, visual foundations, component rules, product patterns and open decisions.
Expected result / How to check:
Read the recorded initial reference scope, then inspect the current design pages as context.

Evidence: October4 log records the source note, in-app page, build/lint and desktop/phone checks.

Historical work completed by October 7, 2026; recorded retrospectively on October 15. Current screens may include later revisions.

  2. Completed:

    Expand foundations and component documentation

    documentation review
    Where:
Design system → Foundations and Components
    What changed:
Created seven foundation topic pages and fifty-eight component reference pages with specific contracts, specimens, guidance and implementation boundaries.
Expected result / How to check:
Open a Foundation and Component from the current reference; avoid interpreting every candidate as implemented.

Evidence: October6 Design System chat/log verify all fifty-eight entries, seven topics, direct links, interactions and desktop/phone checks.

  3. Completed:

Make principles usable in screen reviews

    visual review
    Where:
    Design system → Principles
    What changed:
Added separate visual principles and displayed the five experience cards’ checks/questions directly.
Expected result / How to check:
Review Principles in the current reference; the dated record identifies the historical change.

Evidence: October7 Design System chat/log record the visual principles, expanded experience cards and local verification.
